About This Program
The Ohio State University’s exceptional, multidisciplinary neurosurgery residency is available at the third-largest university in the country, with both a major health system and seven health sciences colleges all located on one campus. The operative volume for neurosurgery residents places Ohio State in the 95th percentile nationally. In addition to collaborative, patient-focused expertise, residents develop the competence, judgment and professionalism they need to excel in the practice of neurosurgery. Residents gain progressive responsibility including pre-operative and postoperative patient care, clinical care and operative skills including gamma knife procedures, endovascular and skull-base surgery, complex spine surgery and pediatric neurosurgery. In 2019, the 40 faculty in Ohio State’s Department of Neurosurgery garnered $7 million in research funding, operated 13 research labs and performed 6,700+ neurosurgeries. We value diversity as a driver for excellence in the medical profession, so we devote significant energy to increasing the number of young minority residents in medicine.
