About This Program
The Harvard Ophthalmology Residency Training Program at Mass. Eye and Ear strives to train leaders in ophthalmology and medicine. Our residents receive superb clinical training from 264 faculty, 96 of whom are clinical faculty, in all subspecialties and have the opportunity to learn at some of the nation’s best hospitals, including Boston Children’s Hospital, Mass General Hospital, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Residents see diverse pathology from across the world in our 24/7 Ophthalmic Emergency Department, and 95% of residents over the past 5 years (2015-2019) pursued subspecialty fellowship training, usually in their first-choice program. Residents from the class of 2019 graduated having performed a mean of 486 surgical cases and 186 primary cataract cases. All residents participate in research with world-renowned faculty, with protected time in the PGY-4 year. Residents are supported by the Program Director, a faculty level Chief Resident, an accessible faculty, and a Wellness Committee.
