Where You'll Spend Your Time
About This Program
The ophthalmology residency program at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine is a busy, high-volume clinical program known for its “hands on” approach and excellent preparation for the real world. Graduating residents comment that they were “ready and well-prepared” for private practice or fellowship. Most of all, we have cultivated a friendly atmosphere of mutual respect between faculty and residents, making this an enjoyable place to learn and work.
Important features include a comprehensive continuity clinic in which resident follow their own patients throughout their three years of training, great surgical training (residents typically perform greater than 250 cataract procedures each during their training), and a faculty that is full-time, on site, available, and dedicated to teaching residents. Residents and faculty work side-by-side within the same facilities. The teaching program is fortunate to have the full support of the chairman and faculty, as this truly is a “residency-driven” program.
