About This Program
The University of Oklahoma / Dean McGee Eye Institute residency program offers top-tier, state-of-the-art ophthalmology education. Residents have the opportunity to work closely with over 30 clinical faculty representing all of the ophthalmic sub-specialties, as well as ten independently-funded basic scientists. The residency program generates well-rounded ophthalmologists, 60% of whom who have gone on to competitive fellowship training opportunities in all subspecialties. Residents participate in varied clinical activities at OU Medical Center, OU Children’s Hospital, Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center Oklahoma City, Dean McGee Eye Institute, as well as unique international opportunities in Eswatini and China. Our graduates consistently reach above the 90th percentile in surgical volume, with most residents completing more than 1000 cases as primary surgeon. Over the past 19 years, 100% of our graduates have become ABO certified, with all of them completing the Written Qualifying Exam successfully on their first attempt.
