About This Program

UT Southwestern, one of the nation’s best ophthalmology departments, offers a unique training experience with high surgical volume, diverse clinical pathology, and training sites that include two university hospitals, two public hospitals, a large VA center, dedicated children’s hospital, and three ambulatory surgical centers on the main campus. The program is the only ophthalmology residency training program in a populous Metroplex and is associated with a nationally recognized medical school. Residents learn surgery on state of the art equipment, including a virtual reality simulator, three femtosecond lasers, and premium intraocular lenses available at all locations (including public hospitals). With outstanding faculty covering all subspecialties, the program graduates residents with broad surgical experience prepared to enter any competitive fellowship, join or start a practice, or enter academia. Residents enjoy the lifestyle of a thriving, rapidly growing metropolis and cultural hub with weather that allows outdoor activities year round.
