About This Program
The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program offers a unique five-year experience delivering comprehensive clinical training with an academic focus. Residents rotate with 28 full-time, fellowship-trained faculty covering all orthopaedic disciplines, exposing them to the latest in state-of-the-art technology and procedures.
Training takes place at several institutions, including University Hospital, UAB Highlands, Children’s of Alabama, Veterans’ Administration Hospital, and American Sports Medicine Institute.
UAB’s University Hospital is the region’s largest level-one trauma center with a catchment area spanning five states. This large referral base ensures comprehensive exposure to a variety of musculoskeletal trauma.
