About This Program

The mission of the General Surgery program at NewYork Presbyterian-Weill Cornell is to educate the future leaders of academic surgery by providing the highest quality education grounded in the basic science of surgery, and teaching residents to provide compassionate and innovative patient-centered care. The General Surgery program trains residents to have the skills and ability to provide state-of-the-art, compassionate patient care. In addition to producing technically superb surgeons, who demonstrate an ability to operate independently, the program also focuses on developing residents who are well-grounded in the basic science of surgery and will preserve and communicate knowledge through education. The program aims to develop future leaders of academic surgery who strive to contribute to the clinical, education, and research aspects of the practice of surgery.
