Where You'll Spend Your Time
About This Program
The goal of the General Surgery Residency at Mount Sinai Morningside / West is to train outstanding surgeons who will be leaders in the field of surgery, while serving our patients and community with the highest quality, compassionate medical care. We are an ACGME-accredited program training five categorical residents and six preliminary interns each year. We strive to teach surgery through didactics, state-of-the-art simulation, and graduated resident autonomy. There is a broad exposure to cases of all types, including major open operations as well as endovascular, laparoscopic, and robotic procedures. By completion, residents will have an expertise in all major categories of general surgery and its subspecialties. Residents also have an elective rotation where they can spend one month in any surgical specialty such as rural surgery, trauma, or participate in a global surgery elective. Research opportunities are plentiful, and residents may elect to take a full year off to pursue research or other career development projects. At Mount Sinai Morningside / West the learning environment is collegial and the camaraderie between the resident and attending staff is unmatched.
