About This Program

The Ohio State University General Surgery Program offers unique opportunities for seven trainees to develop into successful leaders in surgery. The Department of Surgery provides top-tier depth and breadth, with 16,500 cases annually, a #4 rank in NIH research funding, and access to more than 1,400 beds, 71 operating theaters, and seven hospitals. A robust surgical innovations program helps trainees become comfortable with advanced endoscopic, endovascular, minimally invasive and robotics surgery using the da VinciĀ® platform. Residents complete one to three years of research with the flexibility to earn a Ph.D. or Master of Medical Science, Public Health or Business Administration, all while exploring individual topics of interest from cancer therapeutics and engineered vascular tissues to health services, economics, and outcomes research. Additionally, our strong Global Health curriculum provides enriching rotations in high-income or middle- to low-income countries.
