About This Program
Thank you for your interest in our program. The Vanderbilt General Surgery Residency Program has been accredited by the ACGME since 1950. It is led by program director Dr. Christina Bailey and our two dedicated associate program directors: Dr. Rondi Kauffmann and Dr. Shannon Eastham.
The aims of our program are to attract highly-motivated individuals of all backgrounds, to support their diverse interests, and to train confident and competent surgical residents. It is through our supportive and collegial environment that this is all possible.
Rotation schedules are designed in a way to maximize a resident’s exposure to the key clinical elements necessary for that year of training. In the chief year, rotations are tailored to fit each resident’s career plans. Residents receive the majority of their clinical experiences at three sites on the Vanderbilt University Medical Center Campus: the state-of-the-art Vanderbilt University Hospital, the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital, and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The program provides a community rotation at Williamson Medical Center. Residents are also given the opportunity as a PGY-3 to complete a 4-week global health rotation at Kijabe Hospital in Kenya.
