About This Program
The Mayo Clinic Model of Care is defined by high quality, compassionate healthcare delivered in multispecialty, academic institution. Mayo’s primary focus is meeting the needs of the patient and advancing the science of medicine through education and research. The Urology department’s vision is to provide the best uro-surgical care in the Southeast. Our values are Teamwork, Respect, Innovation, Quality, and Scholarship.
MCF residents are trained to lead their communities in surgical practice, quality and safety. Residents will become proficient in robotic, laparoscopic, endourologic, prosthetic and reconstructive surgeries. Our Board passage rate is 100%. One-third of graduates seek fellowship and careers in academic urology. Faculty sub-specialize in oncology, endourology, incontinence, men’s health, BPH, female pelvic surgery and pediatrics. Training is based on a mentorship model. Skill acquisition is individually paced and rewarded with early and sustained exposure in the operating rooms. Our 2019-2020 grads fulfilled or exceeded case based minimums by December of 2019. The two Chiefs have logged 248-258 Laparoscopic/robotic surgeries and 343-435 general urology procedures. The new PGY1 rotation is supported by a multidisciplinary simulation center and an office based urology team performing minimally invasive BPH procedures, cystoscopy, vasectomy, and prostate fusion biopsies.
