About This Program
The University of Iowa Department of Urology is the second oldest urology department in the US. Enthusiastic and approachable faculty perform complex procedures across all specialty areas, ensuring a comprehensive and high-volume surgical education. In addition to a diverse clinical experience at the main campus, residents train at multiple off-site locations including the VA, free-standing pediatrics hospital, and private practice setting. As part of the university campus, there are multiple opportunities to collaborate with clinicians and scientists in a wide range of fields. Our strong didactic program and robust surgical simulation opportunities, including porcine and cadaver labs as well as a state-of-the-art simulation center, provide further educational opportunities. With 3 residents per year, there is a strong sense of camaraderie and team spirit throughout the program. Residents enjoy living in a moderate-sized college town with the amenities of a much larger city.
