About This Program
Our Department’s mission is to provide our community with world-class primary and tertiary urologic care; make practice-changing discoveries in both clinical and translational research; and train the next generation of students, residents, and fellows in the principles and practice of evidence-based urologic care. Our Residency program's mission is to train outstanding urologic surgeons by providing each trainee with clinical, surgical, research, teaching, and administrative skills to provide superior independent urologic care and successfully obtain American Board of Urology certification. We prepare future urologic surgeons to become excellent and compassionate practitioners in academic or community practice. The goal of the program is to prepare for their future careers with a solid foundation in all aspects of urologic care.
The Department of Urology is committed to training and supporting physicians from all backgrounds, including traditionally underrepresented groups, to enhance the diversity of our residency training programs and to meet the needs of the multi-ethnic populations we serve, the residents of the City of Philadelphia, and the US population as a whole. We use a holistic review of residency applications focused on an applicant’s experiences, talents, and capabilities. We have no cut-off for USMLE scores and review all applications independent of USMLE scores and AOA status. We emphasize traits and characteristics in resident recruitment and selection that fulfill our mission to train outstanding urologic surgeons. Our recruitment and selection policies encourage and take into account diversity.
