About This Program

The Mission of the University of California, Davis Cardiothoracic Surgery Integrated Residency is to 1) Offer a balanced and innovative 6 year cardiothoracic surgery training, 2) Committed to the intellectual, technical and professional development of our residents, and 3) Provide the foundation for graduates to be successful in their endeavors and evolve the specialty. Our Integrated 6 year (I-6) residency is, at this writing, one of 3 programs in California, and one of 27 in the U.S. The residency offers the three disciplines of cardiothoracic surgery: general thoracic, adult cardiac and pediatric cardiac surgery. Over 900 major cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures are performed each year. The intimate size of the program affords one-on-one interaction between residents and faculty. The program includes innovative curricula, traveling electives, and a longitudinal health services research program. Advanced surgical technology is being offered to patients on a regular basis and mastered by our trainees.
