How to Apply to Our Program
PROSPECTIVE RESIDENTS should apply to ERAS – The Electronic Residency Application Service.
Applicants for appointments at SUNY Downstate Medical Center must be graduates of medical schools accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). Criteria for receiving an interview are:
USMLE score above 225 with passing on first attempt (COMLEX would be equivalent to the USMLE score).
No more than 5 years past medical school graduation without any clinical training.
Our program offers 15 categorical positions which include the PGY-1 year and 2-4 CA-1 positions beginning in the PGY-2 year. Students must register with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) for both first and second-year positions.
Completion of USMLE CS is required before entering the PGY-1 year. Completion of USMLE Step 3 is strongly recommended to be completed before the end of the PGY-1 year.
