About This Program
The UT Health McGovern Medical School Anesthesiology Department is a large residency program situated in the world’s largest medical center. Our residents train at some of the nation’s leading institutions including: M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Texas Children’s Hospital, Methodist Houston Hospital, Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, and Memorial Hermann Hospital. Currently, we have 24 positions at the CBY level, 24 resident positions in each of the CA1 to CA3 categorical years and fellowship opportunities in numerous sub-specialties.
The excellence of any educational institution is determined by the caliber of its faculty and the rigors of its clinical training. With our positioning, we afford our residents unparalleled access to renowned hospital systems with a diversity of learning environments, pathology, and index cases. Additionally, our faculty and adjunct faculty are nationally recognized for their dedication to research, education, and clinical training. We are currently experiencing an exciting period of growth with expansion of heart failure and transplant service lines (including liver, kidney and heart), trauma anesthesia with a newly created Memorial Hermann Texas Trauma Institute to service one of the nation’s busiest trauma facilities, and a critical care expansion that includes three new intensive care units. This diversity of experience, coupled with robust didactics, and innovative simulation and cadaver labs produces capable, board certified, well- rounded practitioners that are ready to become future leaders in health care and patient safety.
